Monday, 3/8

While my dad moved to the pulmonary floor yesterday, he had to move back to the ICU again this morning. This is so difficult. His white blood cell count was elevated and his respiratory rate was too high so they wanted him to rest some. Because he had the tracheostomy, they can easily give him rest on the ventilator. Then, they will again, try to start weaning him from it to go to optiflow. Thank you for you continued prayers.

    I'm so sorry to hear this. It must be heart wrenching for you to have these ups and downs. I will keep praying.

2/22 Update

2/22: After taking the ventilator tube out a week ago, he did will for a few days, but then just got too tired, so they had to put the tube back in. It's so hard and so difficult that this happened, but I also don't want him struggling. Being able to visit and just be with him him and encourage him this past week has been a blessing. I love him so much and I'm really glad that I was able to speak hope and love into him. The plan is to do a tracheostomy sometime this week to give him air more directly. The doctor said that all his organs look good- his heart, kidneys, etc. - it's just that he needs more strength. So, the doctor said the tracheostomy will allow him the time to build up his strength to hopefully be able to breathe on his own and have it removed and then do rehab to recover fully. Oh that is my prayer. Sometimes it just feels so surreal. I can't believe we're in this place. My dad, so strong, a runner, one of the strongest, wisest, funniest, loving ...

Wednesday, 4/14

My dad did the 12 hours on the trach. collar a few days ago and he also just did the 24 hours on the trach. collar! I am so grateful and I pray that he continues doing well so he can get off the trach. soon. It would be awesome if you could pray for dad to: 1) Continue making progress and be able to get completely off the vent soon so he doesn't need the trach. anymore and can breathe on his own for now on. 2) That he would do well in speech therapy and be able to eat solid food again soon. 3) That he can do great with PT to help him get better and stronger more quickly so he can come home to us sooner.  I know I thank each of you with every blog post I write, but my dad has always told me that it never hurts to say, thank you, so I will never stop thanking you for how much you care and for continuing to pray for my dad. We're so grateful for you.

The Big Day! 8/31/2021

To be able to facetime my dad this morning At. Their. House. with mom sitting next to him and the connection actually working Was. Amazing. I asked him how it felt to be sitting right next to mom at home and he said, "Wonderful." Yesterday morning before my dad came home, his iPhone stopped working. So, once he arrived at home and they opened the ambulance doors, the first thing he said after Brett said, "Welcome home, dad", was, "Brett, did you get my iPhone working?" while throwing his hands up in the air. Haha! So my dad with getting right to the point.  The second he got out of the ambulance and saw his waterfall, the trees, and his flowers, a breeze washed over his face after 8.5 months of being in the hospital. He closed his eyes, took it in, and said, "Incredible." The simple things.
